I slid off the road on Sunday on some ice, slow slide through stop at 3 way onto a dirt path, no big drop or anything, going about 15mph. After that slide off, I have noticed a knocking/ticking sound coming from the front drivers wheel when doing very slow hard turns, mainly in parking lots. It does it turning left and right, I've crawled under it just to wiggle around the wheel and see what was loose and it seems pretty solid. Nothing stood out. I've read that it's possibly U joint, any other ideas? It doesn't happen turning at intersections, even from stop, it has to be basically a 90 degree turn going very slow. Thanks

 

My bet is U-joint related. Try greasing the crude out of them with a grease gun and see if it alters the condition.

If not changed, your probably looking at a wheel hub issue.

If that doesn't work you're going in..Check the hub bearing closely as well on your way to the U joint..

 

You guys were right, that U joint was totally frozen. Mechanic charged me $220 to replace it along with new front brakes and rotors. One shop wanted $480 just for the U joint

 

Pretty reasonable cost, figuring a couple hours labor and at least $100 of parts.

 

He's a good old boy. $135 in parts so I was real happy with the bill.

 

He is not getting wealthy doing repairs like that.

 

Wow, that's a great deal for that! I just bought a pair of Dana/Spicer axle u-joints and paid $20 each just for the u-joint.
