Ok so I finally got my xj running and while driving it around, I noticed that there was a knock when I wold make turns, especially when making left turns. Whats going on? Is this bad?

Grab some help, have them turn the steering wheel back and forth somewhat quickly till they feel resitance. (key on, column unlocked)

Lie under the Jeep watching the steering cycle back and forth. Your looking for something that has abnormal movement, tierod ends, shock mount, trackbar etc.

If you find something loose, try to tighten. If still there the component is probably worn and needs replacing.

There is a u-joint in the steering shaft...but is the sound coming from there? Did you do like the previous post said? It could be a number of things. I had the same thing it was the axle shaft joints, then it happened again it was the track bar bushing on the axle side binding.
