Default jeep smoking when revved?

i have a 1990 jeep cherokee, ive had it for 2 years and only work on it during the summer. its time to bring it back out and get it running good for hidden falls adventure park.

some back ground on the jeep. its a 90 cherokee, 4.0,chopped like a truck, 32 tires, 3 lift. and i have sucked water up in the motor 2 times , (i built a snorkle after this last time) but now my jeep smokes when i rev it up. i already replaced the head gasket after sucking up water, do you think its bad valve seals? do these motors like eating oil?

I would guess that you need new valve seals.

I think you'll want the head off of an '87-'90. X2 on the valve seals.

you can use 87-06 to be honest but above 90 youll need to get the intake IIRC but if you can find a 91+ do itll get a little power due the better flowing ports HTH

First off what color is the smoke and have you done a compression test or a cylinder leak down test?

When you do the compression test if a cylinder is low you could put about a teaspoon of oil in that cylinder if it comes back up (compression) its rings if not burnt/warped valve is possible. But im thinking valve seals, also does it smoke more when first started after sitting, if so thats a good sign of needing new seals.

Smoking.... if it really bothers you then...

A leak down test would be better. It would help tell you if your rings are leaking.

If you can't then take a compression reading, put a tablespoon of oil in the cylinder and repeat. If the compression went up then you have bad rings. If not then it is most likely the valve problem.
