Default Oil Pan Gasket

I am going to change it today. Any suggestions. I was going to just use dental floss to hold the gasket on top of the pan like my mechanic grandfather told me too. Also I got an oversized ford 5.0 filter and is there anything I should know about running that. My cherokee is a 94.

well I broke the first gasket and am having a mighty hard time getting the pan back into place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why use a gasket? Why not RTV?

x2 its easy to do. just get some from an auto parts store and squeeze some on the oil pan. it will work. i use rtv on sealing rear ends all the time and it never leaks.

I undo the shocks and sway bar so the axle will droop to the max. Then I use a light coat of rtv to hold the gasket in place, not to seal it. Don't mess with the tie rods, unless you are planning to get it aligned.

Tie rod ends are usually a to begin with and yeah like they said^ You will need to get an alignment done if you play with them

I am just planning on popping it out and then back in. I am not shifting its position at all. ok so if I remove the shocks and sway bar I should be able to just jack it way up and get the pan in?

Unhook the swaybar and bottom shock mounts to add manouver room.
Remover the starter for the same reason.
I like the 1 piece felpro rubber gasket.
Use plastic drywall anchors thru the oil pan and gasket to hold it in place... this also allows you to line the holes up and keep from needing to shift the pan around.
While it's apart, throw a new oil pump in it.

Good luck.
