Default jeep fuel pump swap help

Ok I have a 96 xj 4.0l and my fuel assembly went bad. It doesn't read how much gas that is in my tank fyi. But my assembly only has one line for gas I don't have a fuel return. My buddy has one out of a 94 xj but it has two lines one for pressure and one for return. I was wondering if it would work bc I hate putting gas in my jeep everyday well if anyone can help thanks so much

The 94 is definitely a different design than a 96. Fork out for the right assembly. Do NOT buy an Airtex, as they have lots of reliability issues IMHO. I like Bosch when it comes to fuel pumps.

Is your pump bad or just the gauge?

Am I the only one who has never had an issue with my airtex?? But I don't buy just the pump I buy the entire assembly.

Certainly not everyone will have an issue with Airtex. But I have and some friends of mine have, and so have plenty of others on this and every XJ forum I frequent. Because of that, I will not buy any of their products, nor will I recommend them to anyone. An upgrade to a better brand is money well spent IMHO!

My pump is fine its just the floater it won't read the gas I have Checked the fuse just to make sure my gas gauge sits bout 1/4 below E the plugs are the same for the pump assembly for the 96 and 94 I was just thinking bout putting a cap on the return line but I don't want to tear into it if it doesn't work

You can remove the sending unit and clean the sensor at the end of the float with rubbing alcohol. I had the same issue with my '96 and that fixed it. $0 spent.

sometime the variable resistor on the float can get gummed up, I would agree

try to clean that thing out first
