I would suspect so. I had a car that would blow the backup and brake light fuse when turning left. Wire burned through and grounding on the exhaust.
You'll have to look at grounds in general, fuel pump power, ASD, crank position sensor wire, and ECU power to start. You didn't mention if everything electrical blips, or just the engine. If it is everything then start with the batter connections. You'd be checking for places where the harness could have rubbed, been pinched, or touched hot. Also, for connectors that have seen weather.

How are the motor and trans mounts? Excess movement can cause the wiring harness where it crosses from the engine to the firewall to chaff and break or short wires over time. Try wiggling the harness to see if you can recreate the stumble while idling in the driveway. Look at the wiring where it goes down from there to the crank sensor and the O2 sensor and make sure those wires aren't touching or shorting against anything. They can also be damaged if they're too close to the exhaust manifold. Lastly look at where the bellhousing bolts up to the engine and make sure those bolts are tight - this seems to be common if the trans was ever removed and the bolts were not properly torqued again.

Thanks for that.
When it happens there are no warning lights, just the engine dies and I lose the power steering so have to fight to get off the road. Once stopped I can put it in Park and it starts straight away as normal.

I had a 93 Grand Cherokee that developed a problem of stalling on bumps. Usually it would restart, but I towed it home three times only to have it fire up in the driveway just fine. Then it finally stayed dead. I discovered that none of the sensor ground wires had continuity to the battery ground. Digging further, all of the sensor and computer ground wires converged into a single wire, inside of the big connector for the computer, That wire ran back to the battery cable. There was an inline connector in that cable that was pinched underneath of the battery -- hit a bump and it would get smacked.
