Default Jeep sputters when I take sharp left corners!?

Anyone know what could cause this? I'm considering changing my fuel filter? But I'm starting to think it could be other things. I've noticed its getting worse... kinda feels like fuel cut off at redline... it just sputters during sharp left turns and sometimes to the right...

any help greatly appreciated! Thanks!

mine does that when I'm on e. Due to fuel slosh, if yours is at least half full when cornering and dies out I'm at a loss of thought.

Could be something wrong with the fuel pickup, but it does sound kinda strange.

Pull your sending unit and change the filter sock on the end. That will help, but may not cure it entirely. Seems to be a common problem.

I do run 1/2 tank or less usually... could be the problem although I also notice when at full throttle... the car sputters/bogs very lightly... not enough to have any major effect.... has me thinking a failing fuel filter...? What do you guys think?

Where is the fuel filter located so I can tackle it... what is the best replacement?

what year is your xj, mine is a 91 and it has an inline filter on the frame rail, the newer ones only have a filter/sock in the tank on the pump assembly

i never had this happen on my older xj's

but my 97 xj with the plastic tank will sputter and sometimes die on hard left corners with 1/4 tank or less

i just keep it above 1/4 of gas and don't worry about it

On the money, I'm driving a 1997 Cherokee Sport. Plastic gas tank. Its never died just sputtered pretty gnarly.

So I filled the tank (changed the oil and spark plugs to champions) and went for a drive... took some sharp corners and its not half as bad......

I still notice some faint stutter/bucking but not as bad. It does the same type of deal when straight (getting on the highway) going into open throttle WOT... it kind of bucks a little for the first few seconds of each gear... something is not right... I'm going to try and swap out the fuel filter this weekend and see if this is having an effect on anything......

I know this thread is old but I got a 01 and it's doing this now all of a sudden. It shut off on me tonight on a shar turn with an 8th of tank. Is it from slosh prolly? Never had any vehicle do this......Extremely annoying and embarrassing.

I had this happen to me, turned out the fuel strainer fell off the end of the pump, so when I was low on gas, when I took sharp turns or was going down a hill it would stall. As the other guy said in this post, pull the sending unit and check it out...but on your '01 you'll have to drop the tank.

You're not going to have a fun time replacing a fuel pump, or just getting to it to look at it, on a 97 and newer XJ.

If you have the money, go to Rockauto or Amazon and get a Bosch fuel pump ASAP before you end up stranded somewhere paying a tow truck to tow you. DO NOT BUY AIRTEX.

BOSCH ONLY!
