Hi guys, my wifes jeep is a 1998 cherokee sport 4.0 auto 4x4

so the other day the t stat stuck and it overheated on her, so i loaded it on a trailer and brought it home, i looked it over and filled the radiator and fired it up, it run rougher than all get out, and there was steam bubbles coming up the filler neck with the cap off, But no water in the oil or in the cylinders.. so Off with its head! looked like gasket blew between 1 & 2 so i cleaned it all up and popped a new head gasket on it (im out of work now so i cant afford to take it to a machine shop) so anyway its not steaming bubbles out of the filler neck now but it still has a nasty miss to it, ive checked all the plugs and wires and cap and i dont see anything wrong, i put a spark tester on it and it has good spark on all cylinders, it does smooth out when you bring up the rpm's i drove it a short way down the road and it run smooth going down the road BUT when stopped in gear it really shakes any thoughts on what it is? im trying to fix it for her myself because of lack of money to take it in, thanks in advance...

 

At minimum, the head should have been checked for warpage, and preferably for cracks, too.

 

So now you have to do all that work once over this time with new head bolts and all the gaskets that got crushed in the process. And of course all new fluilds.

 

so besides telling me what i should have done, there is no other possible solutions? if i had the money i would have taken the head in but i dont have the cash till i get back to work,

 

i cant believe all the people on here and NOBODY has a clue what could be wrong????

 

When it overheated it warped the head. When the head came off, it got shi t in the bottom end. Cam is probably fried. Your motor is toast.

We have a clue, you just don't want to hear it.

 

We all know what's wrong. You got all pissy when we told you that you should of had the head milled. But what ever. It has a miss after you worked on it. There is no magic fix we can give you.

 

hey i posted that im out of work right now and dont have any money im doing what i can do right now....


as for the miss it was missing like that after she overheated it, BUT before the head gasket was changed it was bubbling up into the radiator, Now after i put on the head gasket its still missing but its not bubbling up into the radiator..

i drove it last night and it runs fine at higher rpms but when i come to a stop it shakes like hell,

and i didnt get pissy about it i just stated the facts that i dont have the cash so i had to do what i could afford right now,,,, SO if the head needs to come off latter and be machined then il have to do it over and il be out the 22.50 i paid for the head gasket, but its what i could do for now,,,,,
