Default Intermittent Heat issue 99 xj 4.0l

Over the summer I installed a remain head, radiator, water pump, thermostat, and a few other small things while the head was off. I also flushed the heater core (twice). I have put about 4000mi since with no issues except heat. It only gets warm and I can only turn the blower speed to 2 otherwise it gets cooler. All the controls work as they should. It runs just under 210 degrees and never fluctuates. When I flushed the heater core some debree came out then ran clear for 5 min going both ways. Not sure what to try next to get some real heat before winter gets here.

It can sometimes be difficult to completely clear a badly plugged heater core. Make sure the blend door under the dash is fully closing in the max heat position.

I have flushed it twice once before head replacement then after. I plan on doing it again next weekend. What is the easiest way to check the blend door on an XJ? I was curious if that was the problem. Just didn't know exact location or if I had to remove anything. Thanks for the help so far.

Go here and scroll down to post #47. There are schemtics of your HVAC system.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gre...e-6558/index4/

The Blend-Air Door schematic has a pic of the Blend-Air Door Actuator.

Position yourself in the passenger foot well and, using a flashlight, look up to the left under the HVAC Unit. There you will see the actuator. Turn the ignition switch to RUN, without starting the engine, and move the temp selector **** from extreme to extreme back and forth - Blue/Red. You should see the white extension on the actuator turn from stop-to-stop.
