Default instrement cluster swap

I have a instrement cluster in my 1993 xj with only speed and idiet lights. I have a chance to get a cluster with tach and gages plus trip odomoter. Do I need to change anything else besides instement cluster. I know Tach will work. Don't know if gages will work or not without changing heat and oil sincers.

It is all plug and play from my understanding, but I do know that you need to switch the oil pressure sensor, and I believe another block sensor needs to be changed over also.

You need to swap temperature sender (up near firewall on drivers side, a small PITA to get to) and oil pressure sender.

You don't have to swap any sensors, only 2 sending units. Oil Pressure sending unit, and coolant temp sending unit. The oil pressure sending unit is bolted into the side of the oil filter adapter. The coolant temp sending unti is on the head, all the way on the back, driverside. The rest is plug and play.

Oil pressure sending unit and coolant temp sending unit. Make sure to ask for the ones for gauges and not lights. I just did this swap and the hardest thing was the coolant temp sending unit swap due to location of the sender.

That's odd. When you ask for a temp. sending unit or oil pressure sending unit there are 2 different sending units available. One for the gauge and one for the idiot light. The reason is because the idiot light just needs and on/off switch, the gauge needs a ... I forget what it's called at the moment but, the way it works is: The more pressure flowing through the sensor the more voltage it sends to the sending unit, which sends that voltage to the gauge. The higher the voltage the higher the gauge reads.

Hmm I've been wanting to do this swap. For 93's I understand that 91-96 are interchangeable. I'm tempted to run to the pull it yard tomorrow and see if I can find a cluster. As far as I know the only way to get a cluster is to pull it from the yard.

Do any of these clusters have a battery voltage? I'm tempted to just try to find one of those lighter voltage things they used to sell back in the day.

On sunday I went to the yard pulled 2 clusters and 2 oil senders. I decided to get a new water temp. and picked one up for 10 bucks. I pulled it apart and cleaned it all up. Surprisingly for its age its in great shape. The one thing I noticed in both of them is that after so many years their is bacteria that forms small snowflakes on the inside white housing. Typically all plastic will form a small fungi or bacteria on it like that. They don't use mil spec grade plastic that's fungi and bacteria resistant. It was more like tinge but it definitely was 2 shades whiter after wiping it down.

I cleaned it off then add a bunch of alum tape to enhance the reflectance. I'll post pics when I put it in on sat or sunday. I expect it to be 3-4x brighter.
