Installing new steering box . Durango box or XJ ?? Thanks
hello . wanting to replace my rust-bucket steering box ! i have read the thread on how to do the install done with a Durango steering box , and i hear people say it is an minor upgrade . In the install thread it is obviously beefier but other than that what makes it better ? is it a different turning radius, gears, what? lol
i like the fact that you can buy a XJ steering box with pitman arm . it is my understanding you need to use the xj pitman arm with the durango box . my pitman are is just as bad off as the current box.
thanks for your help , especialy if you have read this far

I have had the Durango Box swap & the steering is way tighter and more responsive. I think it's because of the gears inside. Mine came with the pitman arm, not sure if the installer used it, but I doubt it. If you're going to wheel the XJ I'd say go with the D box - it'll hold up better.

I'm searching for info on the steering box swap right now (that's how I found this thread). I have two questions...
1. What is the link to the thread the OP is talking about for the swap with teh Durango box?
2. What years of Durango are used for this?
Back to my search results...

Ha, that first link is pretty funny...I'll have to use that in the future.
I found the link to the post on this site after I make my post in this thread...go figure.
I haven't seen those other forums so I'll have to check them out. I just bough the XJ last weekend and it's my first Jeep so I'm learning my way around still. Thanks for the links!
