Default Injector Maintenance/Cleaning Question.......

Well I am tuning up my 4.0 and I am not really ready yet to upgrade the injectors to newer neon ones. But, I am wanting to take them out, and perform a little maintenance on them. What would y'all suggest?...change o-rings, clean them, what do I use? And what are the benifits of cleaning/tuning up the injectors?

soak them in injector cleaner overnight, spray out the insides with injector cleaner, and put on new o-rings. Benefit is having a clean injector. The upgrade (swapping in neon, 4 ports) allows for better fuel atomization and gives you a smoother idle and better throttle response.

Alright, thank you very much, but this may be a stupid question: but, being that the injector is an actual solenoid that opens and closes rapidly injecting fuel (right? ) well since there is some type of "electrical board or motor" inside the injector that performs the opening and closing- couldn't soaking them in and injector cleaner cause harm to the electronics? -That's just what i figured, but i have no experience in how the injectors work.. Please enlighten me...?

If I am wrong please correct me.. because i am very curious and work like to know the workings before performing the maintenance.

Oh and i was also wondering about the fuel rail, if fuel runs directly thru it to supply the injector with fuel then i would figure that the fuel rail is pretty gunky and dirty too. Is it possible to clean them also?????

no harm to the injectors by soaking them and yes you can clean the rail. Just remove it as well and spray it out with injector cleaner.

Just run a can of BG 44K through the tank and be done with it. Same stuff your local dealer will use for 30, 60, 90k mile tune ups.
