Cam sensor will drive oil pump

The ebay auction says its for 0331 head so I assume that is what it is but I don't know and I don't even know if the seller knows. You have to be careful in the later years the ports were changed a bit and if you stray too far you will have some fitment issues with the exhaust. Sucks that you got the Calif ECM with the pre-cats--you are going to have to maintain all that crap forever unless you switch to dummy O2 sensors

As far as swapping, I take out the distributor and put the cam position sensor (this guy)

In the distributor's place and I'm good? This will drive the oil pump?

Here's some FSM data pertaining to the OPD/CMP R&R so you can get familiar with what it's about:

I do recommend you retain the '98 transmission, torque converter, and flex plate (if it's not cracked).

Retain the 2000 exhaust system.

Wow, thanks for that Ken! Good info there!!

Right now, the entire drive train from the 96 is gonna go into the 98, minus the head. Haven't committed to which head will be going on yet. Looking at a few options for that yet. Still have time for that yet. And will be retaining the 2k exhaust.

You may/will have an issue with a '96 transmission communicating the '98 TCM.

Hey Ken, for ****s and grins, what do ya think about just swapping literally everything from the 96 to the 98? Complete engine, computer and harness, trans, t-case, axles and all?
Humor me friend.

Why are you wanting to make extra work for yourself?

Axles? WTF.

Just swap out the short block, install a TUPY/Clearwater head, and be done with it.

The extra work is due to the fact that I know my axles, t-case, trans and short block are all in good shape. All of that works well and I don't need the surprise of a blown trans or t-case after all that work. Can you see where I'm coming from on that? Extra work for the long run benefit.

Do some extra work trying to make a 98/00 TCM work with a '96 transmission.

Do some research on this.

Good luck.

My research has led me to having to use a 97 tcm to make the 96 transmission work in the 98.
