Default Ignition switch problems

Hi guys I have a 1995 Cherokee that I am having ignition problems with. I got in this morning I turned it over and it went way past the starting position. it will turn on the lights and everything but will not start it. When I turn it over it does not even have the spring actuated affect it does when you're actually starting it when the key returns after you crank it. So now I turn the ignition to the on position and just jump it with a screwdriver when I turn the key to the regular starting position and look at the steering column I can see a little mechanism moving in the steering column steering components but it's like it's not catching a gear somewhere to actually start it. I'm going to try to take a picture of this little mechanism on the steering column and y'all tell me if this is replaceable or not cuz it looks like this may be the problem

This is the little mechanism that I can see something moving when I turn the ignition to the starter position where it is not catching

Note from DJ

Sacnasty if you are a member of AAA call them and see if they will come and fix it for you.

A friend of mine was parked in front of my house and his ignition switch stopped working.

We played with for a while with no luck; so I was a member of AAA and made the call.

The service driver arrived and went and got the right parts and within an hour my friend was on his way home.

Of cores this happened over 30 years ago.

I think the most AAA is going to do is tow it to a shop. I'm thinking broken ignition switch. There is a rod (likely what you're seeing) along the side the actuates a switch on the side of the column. There's a few drawings of it here. https://jeep-manual.ru/index.php?page=351

Yep. They will get you into a locked car, bring you gas, or a battery, or give you a jump start, but that's about it. They are not a mobile repair service.
