If the pump has a bad ground, it will burn up quickly.

Check this out.

Thank you cruiser54, but I already read this and for some reason I could not find what ground wire you are talking about but I will double check.

If I can't find it ill take a pictures so maybe that will help.

Edit: here is the best angle I could get. This is the fuel pump wires. One side plugs into fuel pump assemble. The other side runs up above the fuel filter and into the frame. It's fairly short.
So I take this short runner and remove the black plastic cover, then take the black wire and add the new ground, then tape up and cover with black plastic again?

Should I just do the new ground and not worry above the original ground and just leave it?

I have had nothing but bad luck with carter/airtex pumps. In my experience as an auto tech, i try and sell the delphi fuel pumps. Just seem to uave way less come backs with them compared to the carter/airtex brand

Turbo is correct. The original ground is up behind the panel behind the spare tire.

First or second sentence in the write-up......

Ok. I want to thank everyone. I know I can be a bit tedious but I don't want to screw nothing up that I can't afford to fix.

I finished up the new ground a little while ago. Hopefully it fixes my issue.I didn't have a solder fun handy so I just wrapped it really good for now. Although I plan on soldering it later.

I do have one last question. Should I hook the ballast resistor back up or leave it bypassed?

It's OK to bypass it, but I leave mine in thinking I get some increased life from my pump. Maybe negligible, but no point in having it work harder than needed is my thought.

You're still clinging to that old wives tale?

Ok. Just decided to take for a test run and the dang thing is loosing gas, then picking back up.

I think it has the fact to do with that I've got my 94 pump in the 89. The 94 pump has 272,000 miles on it and it's been sitting for a 3-4 months unused. Also before I parked my 94 it did something close to that but I thought it was transmission related. Guess maybe the 94 fuel pump is going out.

Tomorrow I will take the 89 NAPA one back and get another one. Hopefully then we can see if it runs correctly and if the ground fixes it from failing so fast. Confusing crap.
