Ok,I recently bought my 1991 xj larado with 126k..It was leaking oill from every hole in the block..I think i now have most of them fixed.May need to do a rms r&r soon..To get to the point this thing leaked oil so long and so bad that it has covered everything from the oil pan to the rear axle with thick crud looks like oil and dirt mix..The whole tranny looks like a grease pit..I need to clean all this up and not sure what chemicals would be best for this as it's gonna be a job but must be done..To verify that i have all the leaks fixed..Thanks

 

I would use castrol super clean and a pressure washer

 

If its that bad take it somewhere that has a steam cleaner.

If you want to do it yourself take it to the carwash and bring a bag of quarters.

 

To be Honest it's so bad i wanna cry i have never seen this much oil leak outta a vehicle and i worked in a shop for 5 yrs..Nothing even close..It's Bad

 

self serve car wash,bag of quarters,rain coat,goggles.

soak in engine degreaser for a few min, then wash....repeat.

Don't use degreaser!!!! I've used it many times and it was fine but the last time I used it (just the regular gunk) it melted some fuses and some plastic parts......I left it on as long as I usually did nothing different........My dad's a old hotroder and he said to use Lestoil it's much easier on the parts and does a awesome job. You can get it at any supermarket too.

Mean Green? Never heard of it.

Simple Green perhaps?

 

Brake cleaner or carb cleaner both work very well to clean up oil.

 

ha ya mean green is just food lion knock off brand, forgive my cheap side.
