We have two Cherokees: a 2000 and a 2001. Each has automatic transmission, each has the Command Trac system, each has power door locks and windows.

On one of these, the main engine control module is bad and is being replaced.

My question is: If I wanted to buy as spare parts for possible use one of each "computer" that is in these model years (2000 and 2001), what would I need to buy? Is it only the engine control module, or are there others?

Follow up question: Do ECM, PCM, and ECU each refer to the same thing?

Thx

Unlike other Chrysler vehicles, your 00/01 Jeeps only have a Powertrain Control Module (PCM). It is the main brain of your Jeeps. Your Jeeps do not have Body Control Modules. "ECM" is used to refer to the Engine Control Module used in diesel powered Jeeps, and used to define the forerunner of the PCM. "ECU" is not used.

There are other "Modules" in your Jeeps that contain computer-like 'Chips' but are not referred to as Computers. The closest thing to a computer is your Transmission Control Module (TCM). Each of these Modules communicate with the PCM through a CCD Data Bus.

There's really no need to buy spare PCM's or modules. They rarely go wrong.

Well some day I might learn. I decided to an ignition tune up and when I pulled the cap off the center contact was missing, gone, disappeared. I replaced the cap and rotor and she' running the best in years. Note to self, check the basics first!

Yeah I don't know what happened but I was posting in a thread I started. How the post ended up here is a mystery.

Yeah I've made more than one post that way in the wrong thread. Scroll down too far and you wind up in another thread without realizing it.

Open your User CP and turn that Related Threads off. Problem solved. I remember opening a thread on an electrical issue and, IIRC, the related thread at the bottom was about tires. Still cant figure that one out.

User CP > Settings and Options > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Disable Related Threads > Save Changes. I disabled that infinite scroll also. They were nothing but trouble on PC. No clue how they are with mobile.

I agree 100%, fb. If it were my call, I would disable it permanently on the entire site. It causes more zombie threads than anything else.
