How do I know what trim my XJ is?
yeah... It doesn't matter to me really.. I have never seen a car with a monster gas gauge i swear i laughed for like 15 minutes at the gas gauge, of course my sense of humor is just mentally challenged though..I kinda wish I could see my RPM's but whatever..

You can get an instrument cluster from a JY that will work in place of yours and just change the two sensors for the temp and oil and your good to go...Tj
Whoa, that is so cool.. I had no idea you could interchange parts that way.... I saw an aftermarket kit for the background to be yellow.. that is deff. something i wanna change on my jeep... is it a complicated swap?

the joy of the cherokees is the wiring harnesses were mass produced in one style... limited....(*note im just assuming this but more often then not this is true as far as ive seen) so if you have a base model and want some of the fancy options theres likely a plug where that option was ment to go you just need to pull the part from the JY
like i just pulled the headliner in my '89 limited wagoneer and its just got basic roof lights yet every other option but theres a plug and harness up there for an OHC so im thinking ill pull one and see if it works

That Power/Comfort switch is what you thought is was. Power if for pulling heavy loads or getting out of stuck situations. The Comfort is for highway driving and you should leave in Comfort mode for normal driving. This will give you the best mileage. The power selection splits the gears to give give more pulling power. You should feel the extra shift points when the switch in in power compaired to Comfort. If you do not feel a difference have the wired checked. My retired 88 cherokee larado had this switch and the wires to the tranmission run under the carpet on the drivers side. Years of snow and rain on the carpet helped to corrode the wires and they broke. I don't remember if there was a light for power mode or when the switch was in Comfort. I think this alerted me that the switch was not working.

a note on the power/comfort switch if ya run any bigger than stock tires you'll find that power becomes for regular driving cause the oversized tires will cause it to downshift all the time then comfort becomes gravel road mode when slow is the speed

On the comfort/power switch the light is built into the switch itself, should light up when in power mode. AS already said, should also increase your shift points.
