How do I know what trim my XJ is?
Okay, so I when i got my Cherokee it didn't come with a manual or anything, and i was wondering how i could tell what them trim level was? It is a 1990, it has 4x4 and it the only switches it has is the back windsheilf washer and then a switch that says like transmission i think and it says comfortable on the bottom (I think that is for towing) Oh, and it has the straight 6..... I guess it's not a huge deal or anything I was just sorta curious... thanks guys...

Call the Dealer or stop by... The Service people in my area printed me off all the info they had on mine. Told of things fixed under warranty, options and so on...
Found out mine originally had a remote key fob so I bought one of them and the Dealer was happy!

That wont impact which model it is.
Well, it could be a Base, Wagoneer, Chief, Sport, Limited, or Laredo. The Wagoneer and Chief are easy to depict because of thier different options. All but the Base model have badging of the model on the sides. So unless the badging was removed or has fallen off, a good guess would make it a Base model.

Easiest way to tell what it is (depending on the state and Ins Company) .. On the title or ur Ins card it will say .. SE for SE, CL for Classic, PI for Pioneer, LD for Limited, etc etc etc. For Ex. my 95 Ins Card says under Make/Model Jeep Cherokee/SE for SE Model and my 99 says Jeep CherokeeSP/CL for Classic model.

If it doesn't say Laredo, Pioneer, Country or Briarwood on the side it is most likely a base model. I'm pretty sure Sports didn't come into being until 91.

Run the VIN on carfax and it should tell you.

Put the VIN after that url (no spaces). It's free...

ok, if it doesn't have a tach, it's prolly base model then.
but yeah, you could just call the dealer with the last 7 digits of the vin and they should be able to tell ya.
