Question how do i know what position my distributor is in?

having trouble starting my xj... i replaced the spark plugs and got a new battery, as well as a new main battery terminal harness wiring set because my old one was burnt up by the previous owner. I was wondering how i can tell what position my xj distributor is in so i can make sure the spark plugs wires are put on correctly. i have a 99 Cherokee sport

The link I had posted with that pic from you posted there was like 3-4 pics of diagrams looked likie from manuals but you said all those were wrong and THIS pic was correct curious how did so many manuals get the layout wrong? I will trust you over a manual as I have seen many times manuals wrong. Thanks

The Haynes diagram is incorrect. The cap is clocked and numbered wrong, which throws off the firing order, so dont use it. You can use it to install the distributor itself, tho.
