Default How do i get this thing running?

Hi im new on here so i hope i posted this right. Just bought a 90 cherokee that had a fire in the left side of the dash. I know the thing ran before the fire. My question is where is the computer on this thing? im hoping that it did not get burnt up in the fire. I can see the fuse block and it has melted some but for the most part it is intact. My second question is what else besides the ignition and fuel pump do i need to worry about geting wired back up from the fuse block to get this thing running?

You have a Renny 4.0, and the ECM is up under the dash, just to the left of the tranny hump if you're sitting in the Jeep. It is a grey aluminum box, and is bolted in place with two 10mm (I think) bolts. As for what else needs to be addressed, I would have no idea without being able to look at it in person, sorry!!

You can't tell what started the fire (short?) or what all has been melted/shorted out. My opinion is to get another dash harness from a '90 and eliminate all the questions under the dash. Easier than guess/cut/splice, repeat.JMO

I finally got a chance to tear into that dash. the computer and wires leading to it are ok however the ignition wires and fuse block are toast. what years of cherokees could i pull a wireing harness from to hook everything back up? or could i possibly wire up my own ignition and if so what wires on the computer would i need to hook up to?

You don't need luck. Just take your time, and don't overlook anything.

Hope that harness is for a 87-90 Cherokee. After 90 they changed and before 87 there was a different one as well.

After much work and a lot of help from freinds we got her started tonight! ended up replacing wiring harness, fuse links, and starter relay. i only spent 100 bucks on my parts, not bad for a 180 dollar jeep!
