Default Horn and vaccum box relocating.

Hi!

I got a 2000 Jeep and I trimmed a little part of the fender liners since they were hanging halfed assed. It exposed the horn and the vaccum box.

What does the vaccum box for and why do we need it? Can I take it out and plug up the line?

If not, then where can I mount them at a different place along with the horn to keep water out of the horn as well. I remember I had to take the horns off and get the water out, it was filled with water and horn sounded like ***.

Any pictures how you guys relocated it?

The vacuum box is a resevoir kinda,it keeps your ac and heater doors open when you accelerate hard, putting load on engine,it has a check valve in it,when you accelerate your engine vac will drop to 0"-5" of vacuum, the resevoir maintains vacuum until engine vacuum is restored. You need it. As far as where to mount it,any open space where it will not get damaged.

Thanks, now I understand what it does. I was thinking about moving that and the horns right under where the radiator support would be. Will that work? What about the vaccum line, it's plastic.

It makes no diff where the box is located and what the hoses going to it are or how long,as long as it is tight with no leaks and in a place where it will not get damaged, mine was hit once by a lady and caused a vacuum leak. I thought what a stupid place for it s I got a resevoir from another xj that looked like stew cans, just painted black, mounted them to the inside fender well and was fine.

You can move the resevoir to any place you want as long as the routing remains the same and it has no leaks, all it does is control your climate control doors and heater control valve, and jeeps with vacuum actuated front axle,
I would think the horn should stay somwhere up front, maybe a bit harder to move due length of wires.

I moved my horns, vac ball and washer fluid resovior under the hood. I'll post some pics for you this weekend. I have one horn behind the battery, the other where the lower air box was. Along with the washer fluid resv. And the vac ball is behind the main fuse panel on the pass side just to the left of the HVAC mess.
