I know... so long as the suspension, brakes, and lights are OK and there's not too many rust holes in it it'll pass... she asked the guy to check everything out while he was at it. So I feel reasonably good. I'll def. keep an eye on the gauges though, not like I wouldn't anyway. I'm assuming that replacing the rad. is fairly straightforward if worse comes to worse? Is there anything available that is better than the stock HD rad if I do have to replace?

That's the beauty of the XJ......relatively easy/cheap to work on.......but u gotta work on 'em (see my signature). The entire cooling system can be replaced for +/-$250 in parts, including the rad. There are radiator debates.......some folks swear by a 3 row rad, some folks say they noticed no difference in cooling performance. one thing for sure, the 3 row will lighten the pocket book more. We went with a stock OE 1 row. Water pump, fan clutch and t-stat are really easy to replace when the rad is out of the way. If u replace everything at once, u only have to drain/re-fill coolant once. Have any cooling system components been replaced in the last 5 years? If not, u'll sleep better at night knowing u got 'er all done and u won't be posting a "overheat" thread next summer.

Well, I just got home maybe two hours ago... Got a friend to give me a ride to Pittsburgh, picked up Jeep, went to parents' house, went to Cleveland to visit a friend. Turned around and came back home. Didn't log total miles but it didn't use any oil, and I actually got 18.2 MPG on my last tank (uncorrected, but speedo is only 2-3 MPH slow by my GPS.) Tried to get a safety inspection but everyone is too busy today Ran it through the car wash and it still looks beat (it was damaged in a hailstorm long ago) but it doesn't show any rust and runs like a champ. I do see some coolant seeping from "somewhere" (pass side of top of radiator, but I can't see where it's coming from) and the battery is a disaster - I need new cables, one of the neg cables is completely disconnected from the terminal - but the damn thing rides great, and the gauges could have been painted on for all the attention I really needed to pay to them. runs right at 210, 27-30 PSI hot idle, a tick under 50 PSI at anything off idle (I assume that that is when the relief opens) voltage stayed right at 14 at all times. Headlights suck but not as bad as my F*rd, and I've already got e-codes coming to fix that. I'm pretty stoked... I am hoping that once I get through the basic maintenance that I can drive this thing for years and not worry about it.

How do you go about getting a hold of Chrysler to look up the VIN for you?

Sorry for the off topic question...

Make sure you get the headlight harness to run those ecodes so you don't burn up your headlight switch.

question, what front axle is a "230mm?" I'm a little disappointed that with all those HD options it doesn't have a D44 rear, tow hitch, or trailer wiring, but the latter two can I assume be added easily. I'm 99.44% sure that I'm going to buy it anyway as I've been in it before, other than some hail damage it's really nice and it apparently just passed inspection today and the only thing it needed was new tires which she went ahead and bought. Anything in those specs that you think should be cause for alarm?
Where do they put all that stuff in a Jeep ?
