Default Steering wheel suddenly not centered?

Hey all,

I know this is a stupid question, but i'm curious to see what y'alls input is.

When i left school my steering where was straight. I'm positive it was. No one drove it while i was home. No one could of hit it with a car due to how it was parked.

I got back to school and drove it today and when im driving down the road the steering wheel is rotated a little bit towards the right.

I know how to adjust the drag link to straighten it out, but im curious how you think this could of happened?

I just got it aligned before i came to school (august) and haven't done any wheeling and very little driving since then. If i adjust the wheel so she drives straight, and let go, she continues to drive straight(ish) (of course the solid axle is going to follow the curve of the road a bit)

I'm stumped...

it shouldn't adjust unless you messed with steering parts or were hit. Is the steering box loose at all (the bolts) and HOW sure were you that it was straight before?

I am 99.9999999% sure that it was centered. I'm stumped. And i don't have the $60 to go have the alignment checked again.

And i haven't checked the steering box. How would i check it?

go to your driverside and look at the frame where it is mounted... Take a wrench, put it on, and turn, tightening. If you can tighten it by hand, it is loose.

Mine was loose.... the PO must've loosened it for something and forgot about it. but i also had to replace everything steering wise. Let us know.

College, huh? So you had keys with you all the time? We hijacked a buddies Honda one night to make a store run... Ignition was funky and we ended up stuck for a bit till it decided to turn... All in all it was a fun... trip... . So yea, assuming no one stole it for a joy ride, then maybe a bad bushing, or u joint.

Mine was the clamps were never tightened on the steering bar... It actually spun the wheel all the way around... Thought it was the gear box skipping teeth... When in fact my ateering bar was about two threads from falling out and me loosing all steering... Check it out... Lol

That's what I'm thinking. There are a lot of lifted cherokees Down here, and I'm wondering if someone didn't loosen or change the drag link as a joke.

I stood in front of her and looked at the wheels. It appears that the camber is off. Would this affect the steering wheel?

if camber is off, and steering wheel is off center, this usually means the jeep hit something, or something hit the jeep.

I think i'm just going to eliminate the guessing games and take her to a shop to get the alignment checked out. I just put new tires on her and dont want them to wear badly
