Hey guys, well my Jeep has been leaking transmission fluid. So I replaced the gasket and the filter for it. Then, today I went off roading and I noticed it started to leak again and before it didn't. Well here's a picture I got. Is that opening normal, I hope you guys can help me.

 

My 89 did this a few times it ended up being the pump seal. It was a pain cause the transmission has to be pulled. Anyway after that trany went out I put in a jy transmission leaks there once every once in while if the transmission is hot and overfilled a little. Unless its pouring out i wouldn't worry to much. Jeeps mark there territory lol.

 

Ohh dang, the thing is that I brought this Jeep like 2 weeks ago and I've been doing all the maintenance and cleaning it out as well. I noticed it started when I used the 4x4, but I hope it's nothing major then. It doesn't pour it just leaks and then it stops. Thanks for the info tho lol

 

If it's not the front edge of the pan, then it's likely the front seal which requires pulling the trans to replace. You can confirm by pulling the lower inspection cover and checking for trans fluid in the bell housing. The front of the inspection cover looks to be engine oil soaked, so check the valve cover and oil filter adapter for leaks before you assume it's the engine rear main seal.If the back of the block is wet, it's the valve cover.

 

Unless he's running some kind of engine oil that's bright red, it's obviously tranny fluid. Torque converter seal, $6 seal, so much labor!

I know, the labor is the bad thing. So much labor just to replace something that's easy to fix:/

 

Do a drain and fill on the trans with Dex/Merc. The new fluid may rejuvenate that seal.
