Default help with motor swap info

hey im new here first post,i just got a 98 xj thats built, but theres a hole in the block from #1 rod(still runs though) but im looking around for motors and i have a buddy who will hook me up with a 91 4.0 that i saw running today but needs water pump and a few other things,i plan to swap everything over from my 98 motor,am i going to run into problems with the swap? what are my options here, what can i pull a motor from that will swap right in? i build motors all the time in my turbo cars etc... so i can do anything, but just looking at another motor vs getting a block and rebuilding it( im dieing to wheel this thing!) ill post a few pics here asap, any help would be great i have to let my buddy no about the 91 its going to the crusher this week and if it works i have to pull it quick, thanks KYLE

YEP! You're cool. (just squeaked in there.). You are going to keep the PCM in your 98, and hook it up to the 98 sensors. A small issue is the 91 will have a temp sender on the rear of the head, the 98 is on the t-stat housing. Not an issue. You found the right place. Let us know how its going, and welcome to CF.

Can you do a wet/dry comp test on the donner? Anytime I have an engine out, I have a hard time not sticking new rod inserts in it.

but its either get the 91 motor which ill have to swap my parts onto it to make stuff work i think he said it had 140k on it,saw it running today,or get one from the local junkyard for $500 they pull it and they give a 60 day warranty on it,which ever way i go im buying a gasket kit for it wile its out and cleaning everything up,but if im going that far im thinking of just going thru the bottem end. ring and bearing it,idk i

The 4.0 properly maintained will go a long ways. I'm well under a QT/1000K @ 276K. Do the rings if you must. I'd just slap some rods in her, wipe her **** and call it good.

If you use capitols and punctuation you will make more sense.

If you see and hear it run, and you're happy with it, put it in with new gaskets as needed.
