please look! engine noise video (on page 2)
so i ripped off the valve cover on the jeep tonight.....in the process i snapped the rear hose L-joint (is that tough/expensive to fix?).
it was so that i could get a new gasket on, but i snapped a few pics of between cylinders 3 and 4 since ive been having variable oil pressure and coolant loss (big warning signs)
from what i can see.....there is no leak. these pictures make me 65% sure there isnt one. when i change my oil on friday and send away a sample of it....then ill be 95% sure.
anyway.....take a look at these and give me your opinion.
ps...how do you clean off the top of the engine (esp. on the header side) without getting all that gunk to fall into the top of the cylinder head?

I broke that same hose when I did my valve cover gasket. $13 or so part from the dealer. Ask for the CCV tube.
I don't see anything to cause concern in those pics....they look really good.

Pics look good.
But get that oil analyzed. Coolant is going somewhere and if you are not leaking it, you are burning it.
Napa or the dealer can set you up with any CCV hardware. Be sure both tubes and grommets are fresh and clear. Critical to the CCV operation.

That's what I did....they snapped when I tried to shimmy them under the wires that cross the valve cover.
Any advice for a quick clean?
I don't need it detailed.....just no chunks of dirt and grease falling into the valves

so this morning i had an epiphany while driving to work.
perhaps im not leaking coolant. I assumed i was because the level was low, and i had bought 2 gallons of it when i first bought it and had work done to it in a shop.
However, one of the things the shop did was replace the water pump, requiring a coolant flush. Perhaps those 2 gallons are circulating within the coolant system, and although the coolant looks low, it has been at that constant low level since i got it out of the shop.
i am going to test this hypothesis over the next few days. Fill it up with coolant tonight, hopefully put on the new head gasket, replace the oil sending unit (my new number 1 theory on my problem) and see what happens over a few days of driving.

If there is still a leak check for leaks at cold start. I have seen some cars leak slightly until the engine warms up. the hoses expand and soften causing small leaks to seal.

after doing some searching online.....parts stores keep wanting to sell me the PCV valve elbows for the top of my valve cover.
if i go to napa after work and ask for the CCV elbows, how can i be sure i got the CCV ones and not the PCV ones?
autozone is saying that this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...ier=860943_0_0_
fits my 01....im just leery because of the name of it.
