Help!! Im in over my head
As you all can tell I am only 15 and I have bought a jeep. I am trying to keep as close to stock as possible. I am recently going through the rear end and I have to change the pinion bearings, seals, etc. (at least i think it is the pinion bearing...it is the bearing that the rear yoke uses) anyways i am having difficulty with removing the ring and pinion. I don't have much mechanical training though my father is a mechanic, but he is trying to let me do as much as possible by myself. (he is currently unavailable for my questions right now, thus i am asking you guys)...anyways i think i have a Dyna 44 rear end, but i have no idea. any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Well for one, you are on the wrong forum and wrong question section. You have the FSJ cherokee if it's from 1978. That's the big one, not the little XJ that we all have. I recommend going into the other sections of this forum that pertain to vehicles other than XJ cherokees or ZJ/WJ grand cherokees for that question. And it's the Dana 44, not Dyna. I'm glad to see that a younger kid is tryin to do things alone, but you should have your dad help you with everything. Especially important parts like the rear end. Check out the other sections or find a forum that is for your cherokee. Or trade it for one of the XJs we have. Can't go wrong with an XJ! Also, do some research on your jeep before you tackle things. If you don't know what parts you have, people can't help. Good luck with what you decide to do, though, and have fun with your FSJ. I plan to get one later on in life. For the record, I'm only 17. So don't think I'm some old dude bein mean. haha.

Did I miss where he says it's big xj? Also to remove the ring and pinion unbolt it and jam rags in the case agaist the ring and turn the pinion from the outside and it'll pop out

You are in some very, very deep water. Most of us won't go there. Not saying you might not get lucky, guess I did once when I was close to your age, about 35 years ago!
"Prussian blue" I believe is the die you put on the ring, (& pinion) gears to see the contact pattern. There might be shims for the carriage, (to move it side to side) and shims to move the pinion in or out.
Once I got (an old Ford), close enough to do dump runs and haul wood now and then, once I got lucky on an Chevy, and I forget the third. There might have been a bottle involved.
"serousoffroad" a vendor here knows things about diff's. You probably need luck, a bunch of research, or a JY differential, but not all three!

Rebuild a diff take some know how, I'm comfortable tearing into anything any rebuilding it but I wouldnt try to rebuild a diff unless I had an extra one laying around incase i messed it up. I work at a production plant building axles too!!! Theres a lot going on in there and I give major prop to the engineers who developed these designs before calculators, amboid gears are cool, mmkay

I had a rust-free 76 Cherokee Chief, burnt orange color with every factory option including the 401. Gave it to the ex-wife in a divorce settlement back in 1986. I still feel I got the best deal!!!
