Default Help with Bendix ABS in Denmark

Hi
My name is Torben I live in Denmark. I have just bought a Cherokee 1991 with bendix brake system - I have been reading a lot about that system - it's not perfect.... sometimes it works, but most of the time the pump dosn't come on. I have tried to connect the pump to 12 v directly and it runs - I think the problem is that some switch dosn't tell the pump to turn on - but where do I find that switch? if that's where the problem is. Is it maybe the switch in the abs-modulator under the master brake cylinder?
Thank you!
Torben

Hi Torben, I can't help you with that system since I'm not familiar with it, but, I can welcome you to the forum.

Hopefully, someone will chime in that is familiar with it and point you in the correct direction.

Here in the USA there is a lifetime recall on the Bendix 9 ABS pump and master cylinder. Not sure how it works in Denmark.

Thanks for pointing this out. I learned 1 more thing today.

I suppose Torben just needs to Google "Bendix 9" and he'd probably find just about everything he'd need to sort it out.

I believe the switch is next to the master cylinder on the brass body with the accumulator, high pressure storage device, looks like a black sphere the size of a fist. I would also check the relay connected to the pump wiring.

Your better off ditching the ABS system and converting it to standard power brakes with the brake booster and master cylinder from WJ. I went to several different Jeep dealerships that told me A. They can't find the parts/ not it's not in stock, B. It would cost over $1,000... not including service, C. The warranty was voided because the pump was re-manufactured when Chrysler replaced it when they issued the recall.
