Default Headliner Adhesive Spray

Is the 3M 77 spray good to use for replacing the headliner or do I need their specific headliner spray?

I installed new foam back headliner at the beginning of the summer and used the permatex in the orange can. I followed the directions to a tee, sprayed the headliner board and the material back liberally with two even coats, let it sit til tacky, and then mated the two surfaces. Patience, prep work, and liberal use of the adhesive will go a long way towards long term success. My headliner is holding up great!

The price you pay for the can of adhesive(you may want 2, i sure needed it) is irrelevant considering how much you would pay someone else to do it..got it at O'Reillys for like $18/can and like $50 of material at home goods..less than $100 vs $300+ for someone else

New headliner installed at a local shop $112 out the door a year ago color the same as the stock one.

Where did you get a $300 plus install price at?

I used 3m myself. Got two cans just in case. Used 1 and 1/2. Spray headliner and fabric both... Liberally. I used a paint roller to smooth it out. Works better than your hand.

I used the more expensive 3M and used 1 1/2 cans. Sorry I dont remember the #. As I remember the glue cost more than the fabric.

I used the 3M 77 on mine, cleaned everything up but I only used 1 can. Only stayed up for a week or so. I'd recommend using more

So do you think it was because you didn't use enough or the product wasn't tacky enough?

I used the Permatex Headliner and Carpet Adhesive. I got away with just 1 can.

I had used some general fast-tack spray adhesive but the fabric only stayed up for a few months. Luckily, I could pull the old headliner off and then I bought the Permatex and this has stayed up for at least a year so far.

Don't use 3M 77. I used it many years ago and the material fell after a couple days and had to be redone. Either get headliner glue or use 3M 90.
