Hey, Noticed just now on my XJ IF you turn the key switch off with headlights on then turn the headlight switch off they stay on. You got to turn key switch back to run position then turn headlight switch off THEN they go off. Haven't noticed this before but then again never left headlights on with key switch turn off.

 

Some XJ's came with a headlight off delay feature. Could be yours does. If so your lights should go off in maybe 20secs or so.

I've had my XJ 11yrs and have never gotten around to check for that. Mine is an SE which didn't come with it as standard.

UPDATE: nope. don't have it.

 

Hmmm just checking my build sheet and it says nothing about it. Guess this is something you got to find out on your own.

 

So here it is. Surely there's not a special harness just for that relay connector.

 

Mine has it and I am pretty sure it is not listed on my build sheet either,
Frankly I hate things like that.
If I want my headlights on I will turn them on.
I always try to remember to shut off the headlights before I shut off the Jeep.
Just so I don't have to stand there and watch the Jeep to make sure they turn off.
I figure the one time I don't wait will be the one time the system screws up and
will come out to a dead battery in the morning.
I am considering disabling it.

 

Got it in my 95 and had it on a 97 and 00. Never had it fail to turn off. Can be nice at night to light the way from my detached garage to the house without using my flashlight.

Wonder how difficult it would be to wire one of those up as a post shutdown fan relay.
