headlight safety switch?

headlight safety switch?
Do Cherokees have some sort of safety switch whereas your headlights stay on if you shut off the engine? To get mine to shut off, I have to turn off the lights and then shut off the engine. If I just turn off the engine first, they stay on until I turn on the key and then turn off the lights. Is this right? Or just another fun challenge of this money pit I've acquired?

What year is your Cherokee? On my 96 country, if I turn the headlights off after I have shut it off they stay on like any newer vehicle for a few minutes the shut off.

Lights
My headlights stay on if you turn the key off and still have the switch pulled. After you push the swiech in they stay on for a minute or so.
