Default grounding points in engine.

replaced my battery positive and grounding points with 4ga. Def can tell a difference.
PO used 0/1 gauge which wasn't needed and it was crimp on connecters and not solder on connecters nor shrink tubed too keep a nice seal.

anyway replace those. so far.

pos cables done. to fuse block / ALT/ and starter.

ground side cable to fender * which i dont agree with and may be removing *
and ground to the side of the block.

im gonna replace the one coming from the valve cover to the firewall here in a bit.

But i was wandering if theres any other grounding points i dont see in the engine?
is there one coming off the tranny anywhere?
or anywhere else i havent looked.

99 cherokee in case they changed alot.

thanks.

I just learned of a new one. Had a P0138 code throw with a CE light because my O2 sensor's ground was faulty. Led to poor gas mileage and hesitation on light acceleration within the first 2-4 minutes of driving. The ground for it is just below the #5 cylinder on the passenger side of the block. It is near where the support for the transmission dipstick is bolted to the block on my '99 auto.

crimp-ons can be just as good as solder joints.

I have:
battery negative to the fender
battery negative to block
block to firewall
all with 2AWG multi-strand welders cable.

There are a couple on the coil mount just in front of the distributor, have had a lot of trouble with grounds, keep looking they're all over the place.

depending who does them yes.
but i wont ever have to worry about corrision in my battery lines or anywhere else for that matter. solder on connections then shrink tubing over the lug to wire. IE water tight.

i do 90% of my wiring that way. havent had a issue since... lotta people i know do crimp on... its quicker per say but in the long run if not done right itll corrode.

i have lugs on battery side and where they connect at. so the wire is bulletproof unless it gets ripped.

done here and on the fuse line... just peace of mind to me.
Negative side same way.

two thinner wires are for the headlight relays... trying to find my box so i can rewire them into that and take the clutter off the battery.
also need to get different battery terminals that use less room for my ring on terminals.

only thing i may change from factory is take the NEG that goes to fender off.

My 87 is grounded to the block then from the back of the head to the firewall.
There is also a short ground to the inner fender too.
