Default GPS power wire

Quick question for everybody. I like to use my GPS when I'm driving to track where I am and new routes to get to places. However, I'm tired of mounting it below the rear-view mirror and further limiting visibility. I'm thinking of mounting it on the left side of the windshield to the left of the steering wheel in that nice little space. Problem is, the power cable gets in the way of everything when I try to put it there. So my question is, could I run the wire from the 12v outlet up behind the center where the stereo and heater controls are, or are there fans for the windshield defroster that would interfere? Has anyone done this before? Any input would be appreciated.

I guess this was a little longer than expected. My bad...

I like my gps in the same spot. What I did was run the wire down under the steering wheel then cut the ends of the wire and connected them to the back of the cigarette lighter (positive and ground). You will never see the wires or cord again. Good luck!

Also did this with my Radar Detector. I also like that they come on when I put the key in and off when I take it out, unless I manually turn it on of course...

BDGile, do you ever run into problems if you use the defroster? This is what I want to do, just run the wire up in the air vents and out above the dash and then to the left.

Not yet... But then again I haven't used the heat yet. Just bought the car a few months ago.

Ok, I just want to make sure I don't break a fan or cut a wire or something while its up there. Anybody happen to know where those fans for the defroster are?

Thanks for the info, I'll wire this up when I get a chance and let you all know how it goes.
