Hey guys here's the deal I have a 99 XJ with 155xxx on the clock. I put a mechanical oil psi gauge on it when riding down the road it averages 30-40 psi. The problem is when I come to a stop, the pressure goes down to 15-20 maybe a little less than 15 hard to read my gauge. It does have a slight tick just sounds like the valvetrain. So heres what I am thinking I need to do, I know the oil pumps are prone to go out my last trail xj when out and threw a rod thru the pan. Should I get a new oil pump and pick up for around 130 bucks put the on switch the oil to 15-40w with a bottle of Lucas. Then see how much longer I can get out of the motor? Or should I start looking for a motor? Then the next thing is find a motor out of a wrecked one or buy a new reman motor for 2500?? Cause I want to keep the jeep I can't afford nor do I want a vehicle payment right now.

Now another thing I know when I go on qudratechs website and type in my year I pull up the intakes the make them that go on the left side and right side why is that?? Here is a pick of mine

Yes the pressure washer is next the guy I bought it from buried it in URE the underside is clean just never did the motor.

If the engine is producing at least 10PSI per 1000 RPM then it is fine. With the engine hot the oil pressure should be at the range you said.
The "tick" sound is normal. The fuel injectors and the valve train is going to also make ticking noises.
Clean up the engine bay, change the oil and replace the filter. Use good quality parts and fluids.

If you really really really want to know the condition of the engine... send an oil sample to be analyzed, cut the oil filter open and examine, then do a compression test.

i put 15K on my rig since i've owned it. it has 217K total. I change the oil every 2K. refill with Restore, and Dino juice 15W40. Seafoam regiment and a basic tune up coil cap rotor plugs wires.... runs like a scalded cat.

you oil PSI is matching mine.

if you're really concerned run a compression test. 3 time each cylinder, then take the average. this is where things get touchy for some people.

the Comp test. some say it should read a certain preset PSI on every cylinder, others say that as long as the PSI is the same on all cyliders regardsless if it's high or low. and even others say if its in the ball park of same numbers regardless of high or low, your good.

Oil so just keep a good routine on changing the oil every 2-2500 miles. Then just do normal maintenance and up keep on it.

I was told that you can run the srt4 injectors in these is that true? They say they will help fuel milage.

The upgraded injectors will have the EV6 connection which is a Bosch 784 IIRC you get them from late model Dodge neons

Are they worth the money? Do you have to modify the connectors?

Changing the oil every 2000-2500 miles is a waste of money and time. You will be just fine changing it every 5000 miles, mine is lucky to changed at 6000 miles. Oil pumps do not make pressure, they only make the oil flow. Low oil pressure is caused by two things, excessive bearing clearences, or something wrong at the oil pump pick up like a restriction or an air leak.

Will Lucas be fine with the 15-40w oil since it's think for the desiel motors? Cause I want to run them at the same time.

I don't know if they are worth the money... i haven't upgraded mine. People say you get better fuel economy and more power but people say that about a lot of things. Either way if you have the EV6 style connection it is plug and play.
