Pulling my hair out with this one. Bought an 87 XJ, everything has been working fine except I’ve been having this starting problem. It’s happened twice now, and both times I had been under the dash running wires.

The jeep basically starts when it wants to. It will either start and run, but only for a short period of time before it will choke itself out. Or I don’t have any spark at all.

Ive replaced the plugs, ignition coil, and the crankshaft position sensor. It leads me to believe that I’ve got a short somewhere under the dash.

Anybody have any ideas?! Much appreciated!

 

Have you checked the ignition switch they some times burn up the plug and some wiring at the switch .
