I have heard that if you install a lunchbox locker you wont have room for 4.56 gears. I am wanting to lock my rear 29 spline 8.25(99 xj sport) but I do not want to limit what gears i can use later. Is anybody running this set-up? do you have to notch the ring gear? if so how? any problem with 4.10's? do some lunchboxes leave you with more room? i know i have a lot of questions but any and all help appreciated!!
Some misinformation here, lemme try to clear this up.
#1)
There's no carrier break for a Chrysler 8.25". Same carrier is used from 3.55 through 4.88
#2)
A Lunchbox locker can be installed without removing the carrier,
#3)
The ring gear will need minor grinding in order to remove the cross shaft for 4.10, 4.56, and 4.88 gears.
A Dremel with a few 60 grit sanding drums works perfectly.
Powertrax, Lock-Right, Aussie...No difference in the need to grind the ring gear, it has to be done with all of them.
