gear ratio
anyone know what gears came in a 1987 2 door cherokee. its a 5speed dont know if that matters. i blew my rear and need to know. its raining here so i cant take it apart

thats what i keep hearing but some people tell me they also madethem with 3:55 so i think the only way to find out is if i count the spline

you dont have to count the teeths. there are numbers on the outside of the ring gear. For 4.10's you would have a number like 4110. All you have to do is divide the first two by the last two 41/10= 4.1 For 3.55 it should say 3911 3.73 should be 4111

Unless its got some sort of towing package or something, its 3.07...but the only package it could have had is the "fuel economy package" and that has 3.31s, but thats pretty rare, and it was only on 2 doors making it even more rare...i've never seen a 5 speed with 3.55s like that, but i could be wrong
