Here's a question, I figure I should replace the fuel pump strainer while I'm here, and keep my eyes out for a new pump to have on hand, can I order any one off RockAuto or is it gonna be specific to whatever pump is installed?
ONE THING!! If you replace the hoses on the pump inside the tank, be sure to buy hoses rated for immersion. The outside cover on ordinary fuel hose gets soft and the clamps get loose if submerged in gasoline. NAPA carries a kit for that.

so the fuel pump itself (for a '96, which is part of an assembly) is actually the same as a '95 ( I think, might be a '97..check the rockauto pics )...at any rate, you can buy that fuel pump and slip it right into the '96 fuel pump/reg assembly and it works, (as I did this myself...comes with filter sock, clips tec)...I believe the '95 regulator is also used in the '96, but no vacuum hose..i havent done this myself....have not found a way around the dud sender/low sense circuit yet, this fault exists on my spare '96 Limited
Hmm, I guess I'll see if there is a name branded on it when I pull it out.
I hadn't thought about the inside hoses, I'll keep that in mind, thanks!
Thanks awg, am I correct in remembering that Carter is the good go to? The only one I'm seeing that comes with a strainer is Denso. My pump works fine despite being whiney, although I was told it was replaced right before I bought the Jeep in 2017. But now that I've pulled the tank out and know it can be done easily I'd like to have a new pump on stand by or just put it in and keep mine as a spare.

Just got around to removing the fuel pump today and it's a Delphi. Also, I'm very happy with the state of the tank, I think one more hose out and it'll be good. I could just order a new Delphi strainer but I'm leaning towards just ordering a new pump while I'm in here, since the ground is spliced and it's whining. Are there good brands on RockAuto or do I need to start scanning Ebay? Thanks again.

I just found this. Amazon and one review say it fits a 96 but only one left and the delivery date isn't ideal. So I may just put mine back together and order that one to have.
