I need some major help here. My XJ hasn't been getting fuel pressure for a while and I finally decided to look at the fuel pump connector. The previous owner really jerry rigged it like crazy. I need help with knowing where the wires go and how to reconnect it all so my fuel pump will work. On one wire they completely bypassed the connector. It's very confusing for an electrical noob. I don't mind splicing the wires however the colors don't look the same as the pinout I found. Thanks

I'm not sure how to post pics inline so I'm going to give you guys some links to pics.
I am guessing here but I think this is the pin out for the connector coming off the pump and not the harness.
Which I am thinking is what you need. But I can't be 100% sure.
This is out of my '97 XJ FSM

I've seen this pinout however the colors on the pump harness don't seem to follow the same color scheme from what I see. Am I missing something? Also what is the wire they bypassed from the connector?
I plan on splicing this back so I want to be sure I have it right. Thanks.
Well I figured once you figure out the orientation of the plug, is 1 through 3 the bottom in your picture or the top,
then you will just go with the position of the wire in the connector to determine how to rewire it.
It looks like somebody rewired it from the top of the pump. Cause none of the wires colors match.
Also figure that the one wire they did bypass will be the last one you do filling the only opening you have
left after you rewire the other 3.
So you take it on faith or drop the tank .

You need to download the Factory manual from cruiser54 website, go to the section called "pinouts" (from Index)
as previously posted
Identify the correct factory wire colors for both male and female harness, write them down on a piece of paper, then strip back any tape or shielding till you find them
It appears any old wire has been spliced in there, and that is confusing, I always write down all the colors, till I am sure its correct
Thanks for all the help guys. I was thinking of doing what both of you suggested but I wanted to double check. I'm going to try it out today and see what happens. I'll find the manual you speak of and report back later today. I hope everyone stays safe today!
Well I rewired everything how it should be. Fuel pump still won't turn on when the key is on. I still have a P1694 code. I changed the CPS with a genuine Mopar part a couple weeks ago. Fuses are good. Checked relays and they're good.
I'm not sure what else to do. I don't know much about electrical. I can splice correctly and what not however the P1694 could be anything. Shouldn't be the fuel pump still come on if theres a p1694?
I'm stumped.
Oh and my instrument gauges don't work but I've done the instrument cluster diagnostic and they work when I do that. So I have no idea what's going on.

P1694 means the PCM is not getting a message it needs, the fuel pump should run for 2 secs when the key is switched to "on"
This happens when the ASD relay is earthed by the PCM, and allows the fuel pump relay to activate
You (or an auto electrician) need to see if the ASD relay is getting 12V (fuse?) , and if the earth wire from ASD to PCM is ok
There is a "Diagnostic" tree in the FSM..go to "Index.... "Diagnostics Fuel" and "Diagnostics Ignition"
Perform the tests shown, report back.
Its my understanding the fuel pump will still do its 2 sec run even if the CPS is dead, but wont activate after that (could be wrong about this bit)
The relay is getting 12v but none of the relays click when you put the key in the on position. Not a single one. My father in law has an xj and all of his click when we put his key in the on position.
Is it possible it's the computer that's messed up?
We tried starter fluid and it didn't start with that either. So there's no spark.

Its one of several parts that may be failed, which include the relay, earth wire or connector to PCM, or PCM itself.
Its prudent to perform the tests to isolate which one of these parts is at fault...you need the FSM to do this...or the "Powertain Diagnostic Manual"..search this forum, I linked a free download for that

The XJ is at my Father in law's. I'm going back over today to test all the 5V sensors. I have the FSM you referenced in an earlier post. I've already downloaded it. I'm no expert by any means so I'm learning as I go.
