Fuel Pump Questions
hey guys! My fuel pump in my 2001 XJ sport went out so I dropped the tank today after I ordered a off brand fuel pump. I was expecting to see the normal wiring connection to disconnect, but the previous owner apparently hardwired it. He just bypassed the connection and connected the wires from the pump to the car. Now that I have the old pump out, i need to know how to wire up the new one. The old pump has 4 wires but I think the new ones has 5? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Spray non-flammable brake cleaner, then re-photograph the wires so that you can actually view the colorings.
Photograph the wires at the new pump as well. Are the colors the same from one pump to another?
Please, repost those. I'd be tempted to take a connector from a junk yard and solder, shrink wrap, then tape the wires from the front to that connector. You'd be able to just connect the connector after that.
I don't have a manual for that new of a model year. I checked. Finding ground would be easy peasy with a multimeter. I'd get more difficult from there.

Check around ~1 minute. The colors are clearly visible. If they correspond with your new/old pump and the wires coming from the front, then you are in business. I'd still try to get you to buy a new or find a used connector.
