Default Fuel Pump Replacement - full Assemply or pump only?

Well I'm pretty confident my fuel pump is going. Hard starts when its cold (have to turn it over quite a few times more than I should before the engine starts). When its warm (ie: fuel in the line) it starts right up.

My question is should I replace just the pump and strainer or the whole assembly shebang? I'm at 117K, would the filter etc also need replacing?

As long as your guage is still working just replace the pump and strainer,I think there is a big difference in cost.

There is a pretty big difference in cost, maybe $80. I'm more concerned with having to get in there just this one time.

Actually it sounds like theres something rolling around in the tank, after I stop... like the gas sloshing around is making something roll around. I wonder if something came loose on the pump assembly thats in there now.

If you do not need your jeep right away, then pull it out and see how things look and then decide. Then you can get what you need. Guages can go bad but it depends on how much you want to spend.

Thanks, I ordered the pump only, a Carter as previously recommended.

I dont have any issues with the guage or sputtering, etc. so I dont think I need the full assembly. Dont fix what aint broke
