I am assuming it all worked before....
Could be that the float got damaged, were the wires on the assembly put right, could be a ground issue from the inside also.

yep it all worked before except the ground on the outside of pump was rotted of and i just put new pump body and wiring harness part back there theres only 2 grounds back there and if either doesn't work pump will not start thats how i know cause my jeep before wouldn't start and it was ground wire.

Hmm, 2 grounds? you sure?
I have an 88 so i might be wrong, but there should be only a 3 wire connector... 1 power, 1 for the gauge, and the black for ground.
Are you splicing any wires or using the 2 connectors? (1 from the fuel pump side, 1 from the vehicle)

I tried doing mine piecemeal ...just replacing the pump...then redid to add a regulator...and filter...then fuel gauge stopped working. Did the whole unit last tuesday with new tank straps too. Works like a charm now and . also found the filter floating in the tank so the pump was shot as well. This cured my chugging idle.
Used to be $150-399 on ebay but now I got this one for $40 on ebay..Must be the 21 year old stock is getting dumped. Works like a champ. Too many tiny plastic parts to fool with..Just replace the unit. And be careful assembling it into the tank, you be fine.
