Default Fuel Filter

I have a 1998 Cherokee Sport w/ 6 cylinder... The shop says the only fuel filter is inside the gas tank and not changed unless there is a problem... I thought there was an in-line somewhere.... Is there an in-line filter or nothing to service?

The fuel filter on a 98 is part of the fuel pressure regulator on top of the fuel pump assembly.

And these usually are non serviceable and need to be replaced as an entire assembly if I'm not mistaken.

Newer xj's have it in the tank. There are several ways to get to it involving taking out the gas tank or cutting into it, but yea I didn't think it was worth it when I was trying to replace mine. Unless you are having horrible gas mileage or some other problem I would just leave it be.

Here's a site with Mopar-Jeep OEM parts catalogs in PDF format. Download a copy for future ref. It would of showed you where the filter is. http://www.xjjeeps.com/tech_referenc...section=2&ID=0
