Just replaced the fuel assembly on my 01 Jeep @ 244k. Very dirty fuel coming out of the filter. I am trying to rebuild the filter assembly. The fuel filter won't come off without busting some plastic tabs with a small screwdriver. Anyone had any luck rebuilding the assembly? See top of fuel pump assembly. You can see the small tabs I had to break with a small screwdriver in the closeup.

 

That should have come out by prying on the filter from the outside. Now you'll need a new top assembly. Those tabs and the cover clip hold the filter in when it's under pressure.

 

I pryed and pryed and it wouldn’t come loose. Even used a huge channel lock pliers. Are you sure the top clip won’t hold it?
