Default Front DS U-joints

Hey folks. I'm going to be putting new U-joints into a front DS to put in the back when I do an SYE. I want to use the Spicer joints, possibly Spicer Life joints if I can figure out the part numbers. I've found tons of conflicting info as to which part numbers I actually need.

Here's what Spicer told me:
2x 5-1310-1x for the CV joint (t-case to DS)
1x 5-1310x for the joint from diff to DS.

Is this correct? Amazon's part system says the 5-1310x does not fit, but that's the one Spicer told me, and it's the exact same size as the 5-1310-1x.

Thanks for any help I can get!

Amazon's compatibility guide is pretty unreliable. All of the driveshaft U Joints on a stock XJ are 1310 size, and any 1310 u joint will fit, though greasable fittings may interfere with moving parts in some locations, or be just plain impossible to get a grease gun on anyway. I replaced all 3 joints in my front driveshaft with the non-greasable 5-1310x.

Well that leads to my next question. When you posted this I had already ordered the stuff lol.

I got my new joints, everything looks to be the right part number. I also ordered the Spicer centering yoke just to have that ready too, but it did not come with a spring. I don't know what the spring is used for, but it seems that most other manufacturers include a spring with it. When I do the disassemble the DS, can I use the old spring and save myself a headache?

Hey bud, i just got that yoke in the mail too. Look inside the rubber nipple keeping the needle rings inside the ball. The spring is in there. If you still dont have one, send it back, dennysdriveshafts will set you up good.

Btw the spring provides resistance on the yoke so that the u joint stays centered

Ok, next snag. How does the front drive shaft separate? I want to take it apart at the slip splines in order to replace the grease collar fitting. I got the part, but it seems that the drive shaft just won't pull apart. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing?

Pull harder. Just make sure to index the two pieces so you can put them back together the same way. Sometimes putting them back in a different way will cause the shaft to be out of phase and cause driveline vibrations.

Really? Damn... I was pulling pretty damn hard lol. I gotta figure out how to get a better grip on it cause I just didn't have enough oomph to get it past the splines.
