Default Front brake question

I just replace both front hubs today and my dust shields for the front brake are not looking to good. They are basically rusting away. I didn't put them back on and was wondering if there is any cause for concern by not having them?

I think that would cut the life of the rotors down, since they block debris like mud and help keep water off them.

Don't know what to tell you BamBam. Might have a problem with Pebbles.

Seriously though. Safety aside , as said, you will probably save money on pads and rotors if you deal with that. Here in post 11 is a pic of how clean mine is down about there.

You'll be ok without the dust shields. In some cases they do more harm than good anyway.

I do have to tear it apart again to do the u-joints for the axle shafts. Found out one has alittle play in it and if one side is starting to go the other side shouldnt be to far behind. Maybe ill find a new set of dust shields and throw them on when I do that. Until then I just keep an eye on my brakes and see if I have any fast, unusual wearing, or rotor warping.

first thing i do when i do a hub change is pull those freaking things off.
they trap stones when wheeling and screech as you drive down the road.

i've had mine off for 10 years. i don't go through pads or rotors any faster.

they have no real use other than keep the brake dust off the tie rod ends.
