Default Front Axle

So is there a better option for a front axle replacement than a dana44? i have found one from a 79 f350 and one from a 77 f250...is there a difference between the two?

What size tires are you running? Basically goes D30 > D44 > D60 > Rockwells lol. If you just want the strongest axles possible throw rockwells but it wont be much use if you're running 31-33 inch tall tires lol.

Ahh you posted just as i did. I'd go with the Dana 60 for that. Staangs fab has a kick *** kit for the coil conversion. Might want to check that out.

Question, and I'm not trying to be rude or anything. But would this conversion be for an XJ, or the Liberty in your avatar?

Edit, nevermind, read your sig.

Agreed, go 44, if not a rockwell.

there are other options, if you have the money. like maybe a currie rock jock or rock crusher 60, or 449 or even a 609. i like the spidertrax 609 rear. guess you could make a spidertrax 609 front too.

actually, eric at staangs fab built a 449 for the front of his xj.
my xj is going to him soon for some front end stiffening work.
(he also made my longarms).

How you liking the long arms? I was going to pick up his kit once I get above 4inch lift.

dana 60s come in almost all f350 super dutys and some k30 chevy and gmc but the diff will be on the wrong side...you really shouldn't have any issues with a 44 unless you're really doing some crazy rocks

Some of those D60s are better than others. Newer ones apparently suck.

A Ford 9" is a great rear axle. I've never heard of one being used up front.

I have, its some serious fab work though. Not something for the novice to undertake.
