Noticed something odd, after shutting my jeep off I saw the clutch fan still spinning. So when it stopped I was able to spin it by hand easily. Its not wobbly type of loose, it just spins freely. SO is this normal?????????????
If the engine was hot, this is not what you want to see. You should not be able to move your fan clutch more than a 1/2 turn if the engine was hot before you shut it off.

Well it was at running temp at idle after I put a new stat in when I noticed it spinning after I shut her off. So I let it cool down & went back out & even tho I was able to move it, it was movable but a lot tighter. So I started it back up, hit the throttle to see if it sped up which it did, then shut her off & it stopped with the motor. Originally Posted by playbass

Idk, im confused as to how its supposed to behave as I had a triple electric fan setup in my old XJ & never delt with the clutch fan.

When the engine is cold it should spin with just a little resistance. When the engine is at operating temp it should be fairly snug and not sin as freely. It sounds like yours is about to take a dump. You should change it out as soon as you get a chance before you over heat.Originally Posted by SeniorXJ

Yeah cold there is resistance but once she's up to running temp & I shut her off, it spins freely!! Great, I fix one problem & get another, only in a jeep!!Originally Posted by RTorrez1

So is it best to buy one new, go to the yard, or go dual electric fans???

I just replaced my fan clutch it made a difference in cooling while in stop and go traffic. Rarely does it get past 210* anymore .Last summer it would get 220-230* . My A/C feels better too guess more air over the condensor at lower speeds is a good thing LOL !!

Orielly has one for 35 bucks ! I am wanting to go E fan because I hate the noise with the metal fan. Its a catch 22 , I decided its not worth the time and $$$$$ to go the E fan route.Originally Posted by SeniorXJ
