Hey guys I was just reading this and was wondering if this would help me in that it seems somtimes I have to let off the gas for it to shift from 3rd and overdrive and if I don't it seems like the rpms are a little higer than normal when it shifts if I don't let off the gas

BAH! Who cares .... I bought it ... fixed the rust and now my sheet metal and rust eradication skills are up there with the best of them.
Oh yeah and my 96 XJ now has a 16 ga. stainless steel floorpan in the cargo area!
Now if only I could track down and eradicate some of those odd noises!
My 1995 XJ is an automatic - it's the one the wife and daughter can drive. It has no problem as far as kick down is concerned. Hit the accelerator and it shoots forward.

Basically, if you have slop in your kickdown cable, your transmission thinks your throttle is only open a portion of what it's actually open to, so it refuses to kick down to a lower gear when you're on a steep incline, or accelerating. Having a kickdown cable out of adjustment can also adversely affect fuel economy, since your engine has to work harder to push its load than it would have to if you had a properly adjusted kickdown cable and properly working transmission.
